March 17 Coming HomeI have 2 weeks left before I get into a C-130 and head down to sunny Kuwait and leave Iraq for good. I can't wait to get on that flight heading home and see my wife and kids again. It's been a long year!! December 21 Celebrities IraqDecember 01 Dec 2008November 23 1st Day Back.My first day back and I am having a hell of time sleeping. I got up at 1:30 am and have not been able get back to sleep so I called my wife and of course she was worried I am not sleeping. It get's like this when you travel half way across the world, it usually takes your body a few days to get back into a good sleeping routine. I called home at 2am on Sunday which makes it 5pm on Saturday in Texas. My wife was getting my 16 year old daughter ready for her birthday party today. My wife and Teressa both of which have daughters turning 16 have planned out this elaborate party for the girls which involves an old style masked party. They are all excited about it and since they are both varsity cheerleaders they have invited half of the high school. My wife said she was going to take lots of pictures for me to post. So with any luck I will be able to load them and share them with family. November 19 Just a Quick Note..I just got to the Hotel an hour ago and I am already missing home. Yes Ladies and Gentlemen I'm back in Kuwait! October 29 This Morning..I woke this morning in a great mood! I get to fly home tonight from Kuwait to Germany ending up in the great US of A. I will only be home for about 20 days but I'm not complaining a vacation is a vacation. Anything is better than being in the desert and dealing with the heat. I ate some cereal this morning and watched the news in Arabic which I have been able to pick up some since I've been to this part of the world so many times. I also watched the movie "Hitch" with subtitles which makes it interesting. It rained a bit today with some thunder but it should be ok to fly. I am doing the last of my laundry and started to get my things in order for the guys to pick me up and take me to the airport. All packed up and ready to go! See you in a few hours wife. Love you Baby!
A Day Around Kuwait.I got up yesterday and decided to do a little sightseeing around the city. I went to check out the big boat that I always see from the highway it was really nice. I also took some pictures of the Kuwait country side and freeways so everyone can see Kuwait thru the lens of my iphone. For as wealthy as this country is, it sure reminds me of Tijuana, Mexico. They have lots of nice places to see but the streets are always dirty and people drive like maniacs out here. I was going down the freeway doing 120K’s (80MPH) and some truck blasted past me doing about 120 MPH and shook the hell out of the Chevy Trail Blazer I was driving. I also went to both Malls located in downtown, Marina and Shark Mall. I was trying to catch a movie but no luck all the movies started at 7pm and it was only about 12:45pm and I still had some laundry to do and packing to get ready for my flight back home. Anyway enjoy the pictures...
October 27 Waiting In KuwaitJust a few pictures of my stay in Kuwait waiting for my flight on wednesday. I had a headache so I went out to buy some aspirin but no luck they just had some Panadol (headache medicine) which is made in Ireland. The view from my room and the living room in my studio apartment here in Kuwait. I went out last night and had a "Shirpa" also known as a flour tortilla with chicken who do they think they are fooling! It's a "TACO"!!! October 21 R & R.I only have a few days before I go on leave to visit my wife and kids. I will be flying from Mosul via embassy flight on Saturday to Kuwait and from there I have to wait until the 29 Oct 2008.
I have to be at Kuwait Internation Airport at 9pm for my 12:45am flight to Germany. And a few hours later I will be in Dallas and then Ft Hood at 6:45pm on thursday the 30th. September 24 Signs You've Been In Iraq Too Long..
September 22 ConcertSeptember 17 Manslaughter....Ok its official I need to go to the bank and pull out some cash! My wife just sent me my daughter’s sophomore Cheer Leader photos for the year and I think I might need to go out and buy a bigger “Bat” for that boy that’s going to be coming over to ask her out to the movies. If I pay cash the detectives investigating the dead carcass in the alley might not be able to track the bloody bat to me! September 13 Yamaha R1Crista
My wife and I were looking at vehicles one weekend and we decided to buy our daughter a car since she will be driving here shortly. We looked and looked and of course since she’s our only girl so my wife was making me look at all the small cute cars as she likes to call them. It was like shopping for women’s shoes and of course mommy was there to get daddy to buy her baby the car she has wanted since she was knee high to a cricket. I looked at my wife and asked "Should we?" and she smiled with that look so I went ahead and bought her the little red convertible that matched her school colors which was funny. Well the pictures speak for themselves! I love the look on her face when her mom pulled the car into the driveway. And I know what you guys are thinking “That kid is spoiled!“ well to be honest Crista has never given us an ounce of trouble growing up she keeps her grades up and she's a good solid kid with a good head on her shoulders. When my son Cesar saw the car he looked at me and said “Well dad I really like this burnt orange mustang with racing stripes it’s about 32 grand!” Funny kid!....
September 12 My Boy Julian....It's been a week since I received the news that Julian was invited to Texas A&M for a greet and meet. Apparently he is going to be receiving a full scholarship to attend Texas A&M. He is such a good kid, smart like his mother and an all around solid young man. I still can't believe he is going to start college next year. I still remember the day I walked him to kinder garden at Manor Elementary School on his first day of school. It was nice that he allowed me to hold his hand until we got to the door and he looked up at me and wanted to go in to the classroom alone. He looked so cute on his first day and he was so excited about being able to spend time with other kids his age. I am looking forward to being there when we get in our vehicles and caravan up to Texas A&M for his first day of college. I am so very proud Julian he has been a pleasure to be around and at times a little hard headed like his mother but that’s why I love him so much. I hope that in the years to come he stays the sweet and loveable kid that I so fondly remember. Congratulations buddy! I Love You Kiddo….
August 15 Cesar jr.I just want to say that even after all these years have gone by I'm still very upset at my ex-wife who kept my son away from me for all those years. I never knew where he was or what he was doing. She moved around so many times and I was never allowed to have any sort of contact, much less have any kind of relationship with him. So it's funny to me that when a parent who blatanly disregards a court order and decides the out come of whatever life she has planned and the tables are turned they are the first to yell "I can't control him he needs a male to influence him". So when the child becomes a burden to that person then the flag is raised and the search for the dad begins and ends in a matter of minutes. I just find that mind blowing after 8 years of being missing all she had to do was pick up the phone and call my mother and presto the information was there. Don't get me wrong the child support was always there on time every month but since the other parent was not playing by the rules the attorney just told me to file a missing person's report and have it on file in the event he ever pops up. So I was really shocked to finally hear from him and shortly after that a visit to Texas from Washington. So below are some pictures of him during his first visit and also when he decided to come and live with me in Texas. He's a good kid and he will do well in life as long as he continues to push him self and listens to his old man who will try his best to help him in life.
July 05 My Baby.....July 04 Julian's Car.I wanted to post some pictures of Julian's car before and after we did the repairs. He was so proud of his car but the dam thing was such an ugly purple color. Now it looks so much better in gray he looks like such a big boy standing next to his car. I remember like it was yesterday when I taught him how to ride his first bike. I found a picture of him showing me his cool trick on his bike when he was just a little guy. He was so cute riding up and down the street showing off his new tricks to his mom and I. Love that Kid....

May 05 MosulWhen I first arrived at the Airfield in Mosul, Iraq it hit me like a ton of bricks on the head. What the hell I’m I doing back in this hell hole. And the answer to that question was as clear as the night sky as I looked at the equipment. The Tanks were damaged and the systems needed some work so off to work we went to get things in order. But to be honest I really do not like to be out here! Below are some pictures of my room when I first got here and after I cleaned it up a little. April 19 Mosul, IraqI have been in Mosul a week today! I'm out here supporting 1/8 Infantry out of Ft Carson Colorado making sure their M1A2 SEP Tanks are up and running. July 21 The Call....Yesterday I received a call from Mr. Campbell at 8:30 am asking me to meet with him at his office at 9:30 for a very important meeting. Apparently a Field Service Representative that worked for General Dynamics Lands Systems was relieved of his duties for a serious infraction that was 100% his fault. I was called in for a meeting to let me know that I would be replacing him and that I had to meet up with the battalion commander and the rest of the support elements for the unit. So yesterday I had to step into a unit and help support their maintenance effort for General Dynamics as they were getting ready to set up for a gunnery. I spoke to the section leaders and ask them what they need as far as support and we worked out a plan of attack prior to them going out to the range and firing their tanks for the next few weeks. July 12 AlabamaJust enjoying the business trip to Alabama. The people here are very friendly and I love the way they speak it's very southern! I am sitting in my hotel room here in Anniston taking the time to update my blog since I have not done it in a while. Today we inspected several M1A2 tanks and signed off on them to be shipped over sea's to Iraq. The guys we are working hand in hand with are really funny they keep cutting up on each other apparently it's their favorite pastime. I spoke to Tami a few hours ago and she was taking the kiddos to see the new Harry Potter movie. I guess they wanted to see it at mid-night but she said unless you are getting up at 5 a.m. to get ready for work sorry kids not happening. She is a funny lady!! |
